The report that Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State has passed away is accurate.
Global Times Nigeria reports that multiple outlets states that the Bayelsa State deputy governor, aged 60, passed away after being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.
Several Nigerian news platforms report that Ewhrudjakpo slumped in his office in Yenagoa and was taken on emergency to FMC Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead.
Earlier reports within the last day had only indicated that he collapsed and was rushed to hospital, but subsequent updates now state clearly that he did not survive.
The collapse of Ewhrudjakpo occurred around 1:30 pm on Wednesday at the Government House in Yenagoa, prompting an immediate rush to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Preliminary accounts point to a possible cardiac emergency linked to his heavy workload, as colleagues noted his workaholic nature despite repeated advice to rest.
Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo served as a former federal senator and key policy figure in Governor Douye Diri’s administration.
Security tightened at FMC as officials visited, calling his death a profound loss to Bayelsa.
