2027: Hilary Support Group Plots Okowa’s Return to Senate

A political support group, the Hilary Support Group, has intensified calls for former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, to contest for the Senate in the 2027 general elections.

The appeal was made in Abuja during a dinner hosted for members of the Lion’s Family, where the group’s convener and former Principal Secretary to Okowa, Dr. Hilary Ibegbulem, said the move was driven by the need to return experienced leadership to the National Assembly.

Ibegbulem described Okowa as a seasoned administrator with a rich record of public service, noting that his leadership trajectory from local government administration to the highest levels of governance positions him as a valuable asset in the Senate.

“He was governor for eight years in Delta State, and before that, he served in several critical capacities, including Secretary to a Local Government Council, Council Chairman, Commissioner, and Secretary to the State Government,” he said.

The former aide emphasized that Okowa’s previous tenure as a senator demonstrated his legislative competence and commitment to development, adding that his return would bring experience and stability to the upper chamber.

According to him, members of the support group are fully prepared to mobilise resources and grassroots backing to ensure Okowa’s successful return to the Senate.

“We are calling on our leader and mentor to heed this appeal and return as a high-ranking senator. All of us are ready to commit our energy and resources to make this a reality,” Ibegbulem stated.

He further appealed directly to the former governor, urging him to accept the call to serve once again at the national level.

“Our leader must return to the Senate by the special grace of God,” he added.

Okowa, who represented Delta North Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015 before becoming governor in 2015, has yet to publicly respond to the call.
