APC Convention Will Be Rancour-Free, Says Aniagwu
The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has expressed confidence that the forthcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be peaceful, democratic, and devoid of internal conflicts.
Aniagwu made the assertion on Thursday while speaking on the sidelines of the party’s world press conference held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, ahead of the APC National Convention scheduled for Friday at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The convention is expected to host about 8,453 delegates who will elect party leaders through a consensus arrangement.
Aniagwu likened the convention to the final stage of baking a cake, noting that the groundwork had already been carefully laid from the ward level through local government and state congresses up to the national stage.
“And before you ice the cake, it means that the cake must be baked. We started from the ward level, progressed to the local government, then to the state level, and now to the national convention,” he said.
He maintained that the processes leading up to the convention had demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy and strict adherence to its constitution as well as the Electoral Act.
According to him, the largely peaceful conduct of congresses across various political zones is evidence of the APC’s ability to manage its affairs without rancour.
He added that while disagreements are natural in any political setting, the party possesses internal mechanisms to resolve disputes effectively.
Aniagwu reassured party members and the public that the national convention would reflect the same level of orderliness and transparency observed in earlier stages.
“You have not heard of any serious trouble from the zonal congresses. Where there are disagreements, the party has mechanisms to resolve them. So, be rest assured that the convention will be rancour-free,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the outcome of the convention would strengthen the democratic credentials of the APC and reinforce public confidence in the party’s internal processes.
The APC National Convention is expected to culminate in the emergence of new party leadership, setting the tone for future political engagements ahead of subsequent electoral cycles.
