Thieves drill through wall into Germany bank vault and steal millions during Christmas
Suspected thieves had reportedly drilled through a thick concrete wall into a Sparkasse bank branch in Gelsenkirchen, western Germany, stealing cash and valuables worth at least €10 million from customers’ safe deposit boxes during the Christmas period, police said.
The raid targeted thousands of boxes at the retail bank, with the haul estimated at a double-digit million euro sum, according to Reuters.

Officers discovered the breach in the early hours of 29 December after a fire alarm sounded.
Witnesses reported seeing several men with large bags in the stairwell of a nearby parking garage on Saturday night, and a black Audi RS6, with plates from a car stolen in Hanover, over 200km away, speeding off early on Monday with masked men inside.
Dozens of furious customers protested outside the branch on Tuesday, chanting “Let us in” and demanding details.
One man, who had used his box for 25 years to store retirement savings, said: “I couldn’t sleep last night. We’re getting no information.”

Another revealed he kept family cash and jewellery there. A Sparkasse spokesperson did not respond to comment requests.
