FCT poll: Ex speaker, councilor, 174 others dumps APC for YYP in Abaji

Ahead of the February 21, 2026 chairmanship election, the former speaker of Abaji Area Council of the FCT Ghali Musa, former councilor who represented Nuku/Sabon ward of the council, Tanko Ibrahim Mohammed alongside 174 others dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the council.
The YPP chairman in Abaji, Alhaji Alhassan Suleiman who received the decampees at a ceremony at the south east ward on Tuesday, commended both the former speaker and councilor as well as 174 members of the APC for pitching tent with the YPP.
He said the party was impressed with the defectors for taking such a bold decision, assuring that they will be carried along and treated equally with other members of the party.
Also speaking, the state chairman of the Board Of Trustee (BOT) of the YPP Alhaji Samaila Buba Chawari described the defection of the former speaker, councillor and 174 others to YPP as a great one.
He said the defectors has made a wise decision to join the YPP and expressed confidence that the party will triumph to victory come February 21, 2026 election in the area.
On his part, the YPP chairmanship candidate in the area, Alhaji Muhammad Angulu Loko, commended the former speaker and councilor for also making such a bold step, even as he called on both members and supporters of the party to remain law abiding to constituted authorities.
He also advised them against engaging in anything that may cause political tension with opponents supporters ahead of the February 21, 2026 election in the area.
The former speaker who spoke on behalf of the defectors said their decision to decamp from APC to YYP was informed by the wide acceptability of the party’s chairmanship candidate Alhaji Mohammed Angulu Loko across the nook and crannies of the council.
He assured that to join hands collectively with other members of the party in order to ensure victory for the party come February 21, 2026 poll.
