The seventh edition of the Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop, DELCOM 2026, has ended in Asaba with a call on participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to improve professional performance and strengthen public trust in government.
The Communication Manager, Government House, Asaba, Mr. Jackson Ekwugum, gave the charge while declaring the three-day workshop closed on Thursday.
Ekwugum said the training had equipped participants with contemporary communication skills needed to operate effectively in an increasingly digital environment.

He urged participants to translate the lessons learned into practical results across their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), stressing that the true value of capacity-building programmes was measured by their application in the workplace.
According to him, the Delta State Government remains committed to human capacity development, noting that a professionally equipped workforce is critical to effective governance and efficient service delivery.
He commended the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq., for sustaining and coordinating DELCOM over the past seven years.
Ekwugum described the programme as having grown “bigger and better” over the years and praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as visionary leadership and deliberate investment in human capital development.
The workshop, which began on Tuesday, August 18, was organised by the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications under the theme: “Digital Communication and Crisis Management: Building Trust and Credibility for Democratic Governance.”
Participants examined contemporary issues including digital communication, crisis management, media relations, reputation management, emerging technologies and citizen engagement.
Ekwugum urged government communicators to strategically deploy digital platforms to disseminate accurate information, counter misinformation, manage crises and engage citizens.
The workshop also highlighted the growing influence of social media, citizen journalism and artificial intelligence on public communication.
Participants were encouraged to verify information before publication and ensure that government institutions provide timely, accurate and credible information to the public.
On crisis communication, speakers stressed the need for clear communication procedures, authorised spokespersons and effective coordination among MDAs to prevent conflicting messages during emergencies.

The workshop further emphasised that public trust is strengthened through accuracy, transparency, consistency and responsible engagement.
Ekwugum urged participants to share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues, saying the success of DELCOM 2026 would ultimately be measured by improved communication practices, stronger crisis management and better government-citizen engagement.
