New Dawn of Peace as Perishable Traders, Hausa Traders Reconcile in Kogi
A major breakthrough in restoring harmony at the Lokoja International Market was recorded on Tuesday as the long-awaited reconciliation between the Perishable Traders Association and the Hausa Perishable Traders Association in Kogi State was successfully concluded.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Chief Consultant, International Market, Lokoja, Comrade Adams Babangida J. Da’audu, saying the peace process was facilitated by the Chief Consultant in collaboration with the Market Traders Union and other respected stakeholders in Lokoja.
After hours of dialogue, consultations, and sincere engagement, both parties resolved their differences and embraced peace.
The reconciliation meeting was described as historic, as members of both associations expressed joy over the resolution and pledged to maintain peace, unity, and mutual respect in the market. They also committed themselves to fostering cooperation and ensuring a conducive environment for business activities within the Lokoja International Market and across Kogi State.
Speaking on the successful reconciliation, the Office of the Chief Consultant emphasized that the agreement marks a new chapter of understanding, brotherhood, and shared prosperity among traders.
The office also expressed profound appreciation to key dignitaries and stakeholders whose support and intervention contributed significantly to the peace process. Those acknowledged include the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo; the Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service; the Director-General of Kogi State Environmental Protection Agency; the Maigari of Lokoja, HRH Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV; and three distinguished members of Lokoja Matters—Comrade Umar Yakubu Ali, Comrade Dan Maiyaki, and Comrade Abubakar Datti.
Prayers were also offered for continued peace and progress in the state. The Chief Consultant prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Ododo in his leadership of Kogi State. Prayers were equally extended to government officials, security agencies, and market leaders for guidance and protection in their service to the people.
Special prayers were offered for the Maigari of Lokoja, asking for long life, honor, and divine blessings upon his reign.
The stakeholders also prayed for stronger unity among traders, calling on Almighty Allah to remove hatred and discord while replacing them with trust, fairness, and mutual prosperity.
The reconciliation was described as a defining moment in the history of the market, with stakeholders expressing optimism that June 24, 2026, would be remembered as the day unity triumphed over division and peace prevailed over conflict.
