Prioritize staff welfare – NULGE urges Kuje Council Chairman

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Kabi has called on the chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo to prioritize welfare of staff of the council by clearing their outstanding backlogs of arrears and other entitlements.

Kabi, made the call during a meeting summoned by the council chairman Hon Shekwolo and staff of the council, held at the conference hall of the secretariat on Tuesday.

He said prioritizing staff welfare such as prompt payment of salaries, implementation of workers entitlement, capability building and adherence to labour -friendly policies will strengthen productivity and foster industrial harmony.

“And it is in the same spirit, we urge the council chairman to do his part by ensuring the payment of some backlog of outstanding staff arrears/entitlements,”he said.

He said clearing of the backlogs of the arrears will further strengthen trust, motivate the workforce and consolidate the industrial peace, which he said the union is looking forward from the present administration.

He, however, assured the council chairman of union’s commitment to promoting peace, dialogue and mutual respect in the labour – management relations.

The NULGE president, therefore, advised the council chairman not to allow political differences to overshadow justice and fairness, while calling on staff of the council to continue to show more commitment and dedication in discharge of their duties.

Earlier, the council chairman, Hon Danjuma Shekwolo and, said the council decided to summoned for meeting with the staff of the council in order to discuss them especially on challenges they are facing.

He said for the council to achieve development, there was the need to meet with the staff in order to ensure that any policies that his administration will embark on reflect directly on yearning and aspiration of the people of the council.

According to him, since his administration has just assumed office, there was the need to ensure an industrial harmony between the council and the staff through the labour union for progress and development of the council.

He, therefore, assured that his administration will ensure that staff welfare is given adequate priority it deserve.

On his part, the Kuje branch chairman of NULGE Comrade Nimroyd Koce, said the staff of the council are ready to support the new administration of the council to achieve its objectives especially in the area development.

“As we have seen in your first seven days in office, we witnessed your sharp focus on critical sectors—from the evacuation of waste management and environmental sanitation to municipal efficiency,”he said.

He, therefore, commended the council chairman for summoning for the meeting with the council staff and assured him of support in order to enhance rapid development of the council.
