Kogi West APC Aspirant Zakari Ola Rejects Alleged Consensus Arrangement
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and aspirant for the Kogi West Senatorial seat, Ustaz Abubakar Zakari Ola, has rejected reports of an alleged consensus arrangement said to have been organised in favour of another aspirant ahead of the party’s primaries.
In a statement signed and made available to Journalists, Zakari Ola described the purported meeting, reportedly held at an undisclosed location, as an illegal arrangement that does not reflect the wishes of party members across the district.
He maintained that the party’s electoral guidelines and constitutional provisions clearly stipulate democratic procedures for the emergence of candidates, stressing that the APC had already approved direct primaries for the conduct of its forthcoming elections.
According to him, no “secret meeting, self-imposed arrangement, or kangaroo consensus” by a few individuals could override the legitimate will of APC members in Kogi West Senatorial District.
The aspirant warned that attempts to impose candidates through unofficial arrangements could undermine internal democracy, trigger avoidable litigations, and create divisions within the ruling party.
Zakari Ola reaffirmed that he remains firmly in the race for the APC senatorial ticket, expressing confidence in what he described as overwhelming support from party faithful across the seven local government areas of Kogi West.
He urged his supporters, coordinators, youths, women, and other stakeholders to remain calm and focused while continuing lawful mobilisation ahead of the primaries.
The APC aspirant also called on the leadership of the party at both state and national levels to closely monitor the activities of certain party leaders in Kogi State, alleging that their actions could undermine the credibility and democratic reputation of the party.
He further appealed to the Kogi State Government to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants, free from intimidation, manipulation, or undue interference.
Zakari Ola equally appealed to fellow aspirants and their supporters to embrace sportsmanship and support whoever emerges through what he described as a transparent and credible process in the interest of APC’s success in the 2027 general elections.
