Labour Party Unveils Timetable, Fees for 2027 Primaries
The Labour Party has released its official timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of its 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said the sale of nomination forms for all elective offices commenced on May 6 and will end on May 16, 2026.
According to the timetable, submission of completed forms is scheduled for May 17 and 18, while the screening of aspirants for House of Assembly and governorship positions will hold on May 20. Screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants is slated for May 22, with the publication of screening results fixed for May 23.
The party further disclosed that appeals and petitions arising from the screening exercise for governorship and House of Assembly aspirants will be entertained on May 24, while those concerning National Assembly and presidential aspirants will hold on May 25. The final list of cleared aspirants is expected to be released on May 26.
Under the timetable, primaries for governorship and state assembly positions are scheduled for May 27, while those for National Assembly and presidential candidates will hold on May 29, 2026.
The party also announced the approved fees for nomination forms across all categories of elective offices.
For House of Assembly aspirants, the Expression of Interest Form will cost ₦1 million, while the Nomination Form is pegged at ₦2 million, bringing the total to ₦3 million.
House of Representatives aspirants are expected to pay ₦5 million in total, comprising ₦1.5 million for the Expression of Interest Form and ₦3.5 million for the Nomination Form.
Senatorial aspirants will pay ₦10 million, while governorship aspirants are to pay ₦25 million, including ₦5 million for the Expression of Interest Form and ₦20 million for the Nomination Form.
For the presidential ticket, aspirants are expected to pay ₦50 million in total.
The party, however, disclosed that the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, would receive the governorship nomination form free of charge through the party’s National Working Committee.
Reaffirming its commitment to inclusiveness and social justice, the Labour Party announced concessions for women, youths aged between 25 and 30, and Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs), stating that such categories of aspirants would only be required to purchase the Expression of Interest Forms for all elective positions.
The party also urged prospective aspirants and supporters who are yet to register as members to take advantage of the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise before the deadline of May 4, 2026, ahead of the submission of its membership register to INEC in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
