2027: Lafia Central Stakeholders Raise Concern Over Political Marginalisation
Stakeholders in Lafia Central State Constituency of Nasarawa State have raised concerns over what they described as persistent political marginalisation affecting three electoral wards within the constituency.
The concerns were contained in a statement issued to journalists in Lafia on Wednesday and signed by Alhaji Musa Adamu.
According to the stakeholders, the imbalance exists between the four wards of Ciroma, Gayam, Makama and Zanwa, collectively referred to as “Lafia Four Wards,” and the three wards of Akurba, Agyaragun Tofa and Wakwa, known as “Lafia Three Wards.”
The group appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Emir of Lafia and other critical stakeholders to urgently intervene by ensuring that the Lafia Three Wards produce the next member representing Lafia Central in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in 2027.
They argued that such a move would promote political balance, equity, justice, peace and unity within the constituency.
Part of the statement read: “Your Excellency, our father and dear leader, we sincerely wish to draw your attention to issues of marginalisation in Lafia Central, where virtually all political appointments and elective positions are concentrated within the four wards of Ciroma, Gayam, Makama and Zanwa.”
The stakeholders listed several key positions allegedly occupied by individuals from the four wards, including commissioners, permanent secretaries, local government chairman, heads of government agencies, board chairmen, federal commissioners and other political appointees.
They also claimed that the area had produced members of the House of Representatives for about 12 years, alongside several other strategic political appointments at both state and federal levels.
The statement further alleged that the three wards of Akurba, Agyaragun Tofa and Wakwa currently have no significant political appointments beyond councillorship positions.
According to the group, the office of local government chairman has rotated within the four wards for more than 25 years, a development they said has deepened feelings of exclusion among residents of the three wards.
The stakeholders therefore called on Governor Sule and other influential leaders in the state to support the emergence of a candidate from the Lafia Three Wards for the state assembly seat in the 2027 elections.
