Hisbah Arrests Seven Men Over Alleged Wife-Swapping in Bauchi
The Hisbah Command in Katagum Zone of Bauchi State has arrested seven men in Azare Local Government Area over their alleged involvement in a wife-swapping arrangement.
The suspects, said to be members of a group identified as “Wuddadu,” were apprehended following complaints from concerned residents and other members of the community.
Confirming the development, the Zonal Commander, Malam Ridwan Muhammad Khairan, told journalists that the group was accused of engaging in a practice where married women were exchanged among members for sexual and marital relations.
Khairan described the act as unlawful and contrary to Islamic teachings, noting that the suspects attempted to justify their actions based on claims that one of them had a dream endorsing the practice.
He stressed that such conduct has no basis in Islamic law and is unacceptable within the moral and religious framework of the society.
According to the Commander, the arrest was carried out by the Command’s enforcement unit, “Operation Ko Ba Kobo,” following credible intelligence reports on the activities of the group.
He added that the suspects confessed to organising and participating in the arrangement without any legitimate religious backing.
Khairan further explained that under Islamic law, marriage must follow due process and be properly conducted and witnessed, stressing that the alleged acts amount to adultery.
He warned that the Command would take decisive legal action against individuals found engaging in similar practices, and urged members of the Muslim community to seek proper religious knowledge and adhere strictly to the teachings of Sharia law.
